| Press Release: | Winter Haven, FL- Cypress Gardens Adventure Park heads for the final frontier as their fifth coaster, Galaxy Spin, blasts off on Wednesday, August 17th. Festivities will continue through the weekend and include a ribbon-cutting at 11 am on Wednesday and other special events.
Galaxy Spin is a spinning mouse coaster, a twist on the more traditional mouse style. Passengers are strapped into cars, not a coaster train and then sent off on an adventure of cosmic proportions! The cars themselves spin as they dip and dive through the hairpin twists and turns of the track, taking passengers on a unique coaster experience.
"We're proud to launch the fifth coaster and 39th ride at Cypress Gardens Adventure Park. Galaxy Spin is a wonderful complement to our ride selection, in keeping with our effort to offer great family excitement," says Kent Buescher, President/CEO. "I think guests of all ages will find it a thrilling ride, with enough exhilaration to keep the thrill-seekers happy, but not too intense for our younger and older guests."
The alien theme is in keeping with the park's retro atmosphere, recalling the fascination America had with UFO's in the middle of the last decade.
"When Cypress Gardens was in its first hey day during the 1950's and 60's, there was also another phenomenon occurring. More and more Americans were looking to the skies for signs of ‘little green men,'" says Buescher with a grin. "Roswell was a big deal and reports of alien abductions and UFO sightings were growing. When we were searching for our fifth coaster, the spinning cars just lent themselves to a UFO theme. This is our tongue-in- cheek tribute to that facet of Americana."
Galaxy Spin joins an already exhilarating park experience.
