Press Release:

Gardaland, Italy's Number 1 Theme Park, celebrates its 33rd season with the inauguration of an exciting new attraction: "Mammut" (Mammoth in English) is a large scale attraction that puts Gardaland under the spotlight once again, thanks to its ongoing commitment to constructing world quality attractions, following the recent success of Fuga da Atlantide, guaranteeing its position as one of Europe's top parks.

"Mammut" immediately catches the curiosity of its visitors: they will be chilled by Actric glaciers or thrilled by unexpected discovery of the polar landscapes, where snow and ice, rocks and precipices strike awe into the hearts of even the bravest visitors.

The attraction is inspired by an excavation site hidden amongst the glaciers: it's the end of the forties, and expedition of scientists has come across a fantastic example of a perfectly preserved frozen mammoth during their scientific excavations at the North Pole. The place of the discovery is mountainous and icy and almost totally impervious to man: a special train has been be constructed to transport materials and scientists could be transported to the site of the discovery, under very arduous, if not extreme conditions.

But there's a twist in the tail: during the excavation works, the beast, which has been extinct for many centuries, mysteriously starts to awake from its millennium slumber. Panic and chaos reign at the base camp, as the scientists and technicians flee on the polar train!!!

These are the experiences that will capture the hearts of visitors to the Park: an environmental polar mission, departure from the base camp on the scientists' research train, arrival at the excavations and the sudden escape as the mammoth re-awakes.

The train travels along single track line for more than 1,000 m as it twists and turns through curves and steep climbs and exhilarating descents that offer visitors unprecedented emotion: the train makes three climbs, with a steepness of up to 48% and makes sixteen sudden changes of direction.

The "Mammut" project is large scale and extremely technically complex attraction: it covers approximately 5,000 square metres. It was assembled by attaching 1,672 bolts to the foundation and 3,600 bolts to the track joints. More than 500,000 kg of steel were used in its construction.

Yet the most important feature of the attraction, apart from the level of technology employed, is its impressive scenery, which has been planned down to the finest detail. All visible parts of the structure were totally designed and assembly by Gardaland's scenery laboratories, which carefully and painstakingly created every feature.

You only need to think that for the construction of the base camp, Gardaland's scenery designers managed to locate some rare vintage trucks that had been used by American Marines during the Second World War, almost unobtainable GMC CCKW-352, six-wheel drive trucks that are unstoppable on any type of terrain. This means of transport was located in France, and they were brought to Gardaland especially for the Mammut scenery.

The overall result is incredible: in fact, a new theme area has been created inside the Park, the so-called "Polar World", to go along side Gardaland's five other currently existing theme worlds.

In Italy's Number One Park, visitors can experience the mystic charm of Egypt, or the traditions of merry "Olde Inglande", the adventures of the Wild West or the solemnity of the Medieval period and now the mysteries of the Arctic unveiled!

From 19th March until 30th September, GARDALAND will be open every day from 9.30 am to 6.30 pm, and from 20th June to 9th September the Park will be open non-stop from 9.30 am to midnight. The special opening will continue to celebrate "Halloween" during the month of October on the weekends of 4-5, 11-12, 18-19, 25-26, as well as for the "long weekend" from 31st October to 2nd November. The cost on an entry ticket to the Park is Euro 30 full-rate and Euro 26 reduced rate, which children who are less than 1.00 metre tall can enter for free. Multi-day tickets can also be bought at a discount ark so that you can enjoy yourself and save a little money too.
