| Press Release: | KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Worlds of Fun amusement park in Kansas City, Mo., celebrates International honor as PROWLER roller coaster is awarded "Best New Attraction" by Amusement Today at the 2009 Golden Ticket Awards. PROWLER brings home Worlds of Fun's first Golden Ticket with its critically acclaimed high speed, low to the ground curves, and smooth ride all in a wooded setting.
The Golden Ticket Awards are some of the most prestigious awards in the amusement industry. This year marks the 11th year for the awards, which are presented annually to the "best of the best" and are calculated from an international poll conducted by Amusement Today, a Texas-based publication that covers amusement park news and trends. Surveys were sent to a database of well-traveled park experts around the world - in balanced geographical regions, asking them to rate the "best" in categories, such as amusement parks, roller coasters, and more.
PROWLER, an $8 million investment, was custom designed and built for the topography of Worlds of Fun by Great Coasters International, Inc. (GCI) of Sunbury, Pennsylvania. The two-and-a-half minute chase begins with the ride's only feature above the trees' cover, a swooping 85 foot plummet into a ravine. After the spiral plunge, the train rips through 3,074 feet of high speed hills and sharply banked turns at a top speed of 51 MPH.
"We are truly honored to receive Amusement Today's Golden Ticket for 'Best New Attraction'," states Frank Wilburn, Vice President and General Manager at Worlds of Fun. "Great Coasters International (GCI) built an amazing ride that we knew would be very special for not only our park but for Kansas City."
Guests still have plenty of time to take a spin on the world's best new ride, as Worlds of Fun is open weekends through November 1, 2009. The park celebrates Oktoberfest, September 12, 13, 19, and 20, and Halloween Haunt, Kansas City's largest Halloween event, September 25 – November 1, 2009.
