Los Angeles, CA - Tuesday, August 13, 2002 -- Today, Six Flags Magic Mountain announced the reopening of the most anticipated coaster of the decade - X. The first of its kind prototype roller coaster, which debuted earlier this year, was closed temporarily to complete some design modifications.
"The technology on X is revolutionary and the ride is one of the most highly complex and technically advanced attractions to debut in quite some time. Although it's quite unfortunate, it's not uncommon in our industry to make design changes on a prototype ride during the first year of operation," noted Del Holland, vice president and general manager, Six Flags California. "It's a double edged sword," added Holland. "Having the technology to create a "first of it's kind" ride also means it takes more time to fine tune and adjust the product at the same time. We sincerely regret the inconvenience and are excited to have this great ride back in action."
For the first time ever, riders sit on the edge of a massive 22-foot wide vehicle that spins 360 degrees forwards and backwards. Plummeting 200-feet face first down a near vertical first drop, riders will experience an unprecedented "don't know what to expect" sensation. There is nothing else like it on the planet!
The X rollercoaster is just one of 15 world class coasters at the 260-acre theme park located just North of Los Angeles. The theme park is open daily through September 8 and weekends and holidays the remainder of the year. |
