In the spring, Six Flags was appointed the interim manager of Jazzland by the bankruptcy court handling the troubled park. Later that summer, Six Flags won the bid to purchase the park and it became the 16th member of the Six Flags family.
Lake Forest Blvd. between Interstate 510 and Michoud Blvd. was renamed Six Flags Parkway in honor of the park.
Hurricane Katrina caused several levees to breech in New Orleans. The city which lies at an elevation below Lake Pontchartrain is flooded along with the Six Flags New Orleans. According to the schedule on the Six Flags New Orleans website, the park last operated August 21st and was not scheduled to operate the last week of August.
