GOCC Holiday Party

The annual GOCC Holiday party will be held on December 13, 2008, at the 356th Fighter Group, in North Canton, Ohio.  Great food, speakers, and lots of door prizes are planned, as usual.  Plus, again this year, will be the GOCC Photo Contest.

Cypress Gardens to Remove Rides

Cypress Gardens, Winter Haven, Florida, in trying to find its niche and stay open in the Florida theme park market, will temporarily close on November 17, 2008 for three months.  When they reopen, all of the amusement rides and rollercoasters will have been removed, along with the animal zoo.

Rye Playland to Change to POP

Playland Park, in Rye, New York, has decided to change to a pay on price system for the 2009 season.  The park in the past offered free admission, with a pay per ride charge.  They plan to charge $25 for Winchester County residents, and $30 for non-county residents.  Playland Park is owned and operated by the county.

Cedar Fair and Six Flags Stocks Punished

Both Cedar Fair, LP and Six Flags, Inc. reported increases in profit and operating income, however both fell short of analysts expectation.  Thus, with the current market instability, both stocks saw dramatic drops in their stock prices.  Cedar Fair saw its price drop to the mid $13 range while the already troubled Six Flags stock dropped to a record low of 25 cents.  Six Flags, Inc. has been warned by the NYSE that it could be delisted due to its low stock price and market capitalization.

More Bids for Geauga Lake Property

According to media reports, Cedar Fair, LP has tentatively sold a 30 acre  parcel of the Geauga Lake property, in Aurora, Ohio, to the Jacobs Group, to build a shopping plaza.  There are reports thats they are in negotiations to sell the remaining 500 acres for a residential development.

I am sorry for the lack of updates recently, however we have been very busy working and planning the marriage of our daughter, and GOCC member, Chelsea Rockhold, on December 20, 2008.
