Earlier this week, I saw an ad in a Korean newspaper for an amusement park named Marine World. The park is within an hour of where I live, but until I saw the ad, I had no clue it existed. What got my attention in the ad was the picture of a portable looping coaster. With 50 degree weather today, I knew I had to go over and experience this park. I left for the Incheon bus terminal around noon today. I got there and caught a city bus bound for Wolgot, which is near Siehueng in Incheon. I was surprised at how close this was to the Songdo Resort, which I have visited before. Upon seeing the park, I got off the bus and went to find the entrance to the park, which was in a back alley, not on the main street. The park opened in 2001 and features over a dozen rides. The park has a pretty complete package for a small Korean park. There is a large ferris wheel, bumper cars, pirate ship, merry-go-round and some family and kiddie rides. There is also a log flume (a rarity in a small Korean park like this one). The coaster is like an SDC Galaxie with a loop. It is very smooth, although the loop is very intense. I do not know the name of the coaster as it was written in Korean. Admission is free with a ride pass being 13000 won (about $13.00 USD). The coaster is fun, as is the rest of the park. There are some food stands and two game areas. Marine World is located right in the middle of a city. It appears to have been built in an old parking lot. The park will never grow much beyond its current size, but it is a fun place and it attracted a small crowd today. The coaster is the biggest thrill in this part of Korea. I enjoyed the Koreans reaction to the coaster going through the loop. To them, this is the same as a park back home opening a major coaster. Although Korea has some nice parks and some big coasters, Koreans settle for going to their local parks. If all their local park has is a powered Dragon coaster, then that is what they enjoy. The Koreans in Incheon are lucky to have Marine World and the Songdo Resort. The park is about six miles or so from the Songdo Resort, home of the only other known coaster in Incheon.
