Etymology

'Sybrandy' Speelpark' is Dutch for 'Sybrandy's Play Park', named after the initial owner Rients Sybrandy.

History

'Sybrandy's Speelpark' was a small family owned recreational park. When the owner Simon Sybrandy retired he couldn't find anyone who wanted to continue his business together with his son Rienk Sybrandy. Initally the park was set to close permanently.
A rescue operation led by Sjerp Jaarsma, the owner of nearby (about 4 km) recreational Park 'De Hege Gerzen' succeedded and the city agreed on granting a loan to help out.
Sjerp Jaarsma moved all of the rides from Sybrandy's Speelpark to De Hege Gerzen for the 2020 season. The moved park was there renamed to 'Sybrandy’s Speel- en Natuurpark' (Dutch for 'Sybrandy's Play and Nature Park').
