Etymology

'Huit Volant' is French for 'Flying Eight'. 'Une grande huit', French for 'a big eight' is a common nomination in French for a roller coaster in general. It refers to the figure-8 layout roller coasters often had and sometimes still have. The same logic is applied in German with "Achterbahn" or in Dutch with "Achtbaan", both meaning "Eight-track".
