| 'Jardin d'Acclimatation' is French for 'Garden of Acclimatisation'. |
Jardin d'Acclimatation was founded by French president Napoleon III in 1860. The 19th century was they heyday of modern colonialism and imperialism. European Countries brought animals and plants from far-off places to Europe to the surprise and bewilderment of the public. Jardin d'Acclimatation was built to have a place where all these plants and animals could acclimatise to the European climate. From 1931 on, it became more of a traditional zoo and later on an attraction/theme park. |
